Question to pose

When folks that just maybe happen to be heterosexual stop introducing folks that just happen to be homosexual as "...And this is my gay friend _____ ...", perhaps the 'friend' part will be more believable than just "ally brownie-points". Can't they simply say "This is my friend _____"?
